Most villain checklists lean toward high-stakes, externalized conflict—the kind you’d see in thrillers or comic-book antagonists.

Cozy mysteries usually operate on smaller, more intimate pressures, and the “villain” often feels like a regular person who made a bad (or desperate) choice.

Instead of thinking in terms of a grand villain build, it’s more useful to think in terms of motive, concealment, and social disruption.
